Hello,
My name is Cynthia Butler- Rance. I was diagnosed in 1995 with
fibromuscular dysplasia by my local doctor. I had migraines since puberty,
about 13 or 14 and they became increasingly worse. I would vomit and lie on
the bathroom floor or the bed for two to three days. Often, I wound up in
the emergency room, and the shots temporarily gave me relief and the
headaches were back.
I have six children ranging from 23 to 5 and have been in abusive
relationships. Probably stems from a verbally abusive mom. My father is a
recovering alcoholic. Very sweet man. I am a daddy's girl, can you tell? A
good drunk even during those years. He quit right before by only brother
was killed at 23, drinking and driving. I was 25 that year. That was 15
years ago.
I am now 40, have lost a kidney because meds would not get my 200/ 120
pressure down. I have coils in my right kidney. My carotids were a little
over 50 % blocked last year. I go to Shands in Gainesville Feb. 7 to have
them checked. My femoral artery hurts just thinking about it. I have scar
tissue there because I have had over 17 arteriograms through the site. I do
like the valium they give me before the procedure.
We had a really bad wreck on Jan. 26 of last year. Only the youngest was
with us. Philip's ear had to be reattached, he was driving. I had my legs
on the dash. Glass all in my feet. I also broke three ribs, my sternum and
lacerated my bladder. My new doctor here in Tallahassee had a great bed
side manner, I say had because he is no longer my doctor. He told me my
heart should have exploded. I now am a nervous wreck. He put me on xanax.
Then klonopin. I had a second wreck after a settlement. By the way, three
seventeen year olds hit us head on at 9:00 pm. They didn't have a pot to
@#%$ in. Our insurance paid. We now have more coverage, luckily because the
first day of school, another young girl totaled my new van, I still don't
know the extent of my injuries. Philip tried to get my doctor to come to
the hospital and he said he didn't deliver babies. When I made an
appointment, he said I was too demanding, with my disease and all and I
needed to find a new doctor within 30 days. I was so scared.
It seems like a blessing. She doesn't have a big practice but said she
hadn't heard of fibromuscular dysplasia since med school but would read up
on it. Shoot, my last doctor, I told him to look it up, he said he didn't
have time. I should have known I was in trouble.
Anyway I have been reading all the notes. I think an organization would be
great.Let me know how I can help.
