My 10 year old son Lewis
:rolleyes

My 10 year old son Lewis yesterday underwent angiography/angioplasty at Great Ormond Street Children's hospital in London, to discover the cause (& try to rectify it) of his extremely high blood pressure. In January Lewis had a sub-arachnoid haemorrhage due to a burst aneurysm in his brain. This was the first we knew anything was wrong. This was clipped, it was totally successful & he has had no ill effects, he is totally OK. However doctors realised his blood pressure must have been high for quite some time (thickened left ventricle to his heart), & needed to start investigating. They were looking into it being renal artery stenosis. As we have discovered yesterday, it was, with his right kidney being totally blocked (now stent put in) & left being narrowed (ballon put in to open). His aorta is also involved but not too bad at the moment. Our doctor told us all this points to FMD. Obviously this is not very common in children, so I am wondering if there are any other kids out there with this problem, & also does anyone know what might have caused it? Is it genetic?
Will give more info about Lewis's problems to anyone who is interested.
